It will bend and flex a little bit to essentially move with the horse. This model also has a gel seat, and some other pretty techy features for a saddle. I asked if you had to have the giant plastic CWD branding, and she told me the hunter version covers it at leather for no extra cost.
The first thing I thought when I sat in this saddle is, Damnit of course I like the expensive saddle. It was unlike any other saddle I sat in. One strange side effect is that my stirrup leathers actually felt a hole too long in this saddle, and I had to raise them up one.
Once I did, everything felt damn near perfect. Riding in it, the balance was excellent. What did Simon think? The main reason for switching was to evaluate whether I liked the medium deep seat or the flat seat, and my rep warned me to try and ignore the seat size too small and the flap wrong for me. The flat seat pitched me forward, and it just felt like a ho hum regular ill fitting saddle. Nothing special. No rainbows. I wanted to try a very similar version to the 2G that I sat in.
Next on the docket is County! You could sit me on both saddles, not tell me a word about either, and without a doubt my butt would love the most expensive one. You can imagine how it thrills my hubby. Or would be, in a universe where I could afford it. More expensive items every time. Why can we not like reasonably priced things?!
Very interesting to hear what your rep told you. My rep said the same about buffalo being more durable. I am in a SE02 seat with the 2c flap and that was much more comfortable to me than the flat seat. That said with a pro panel and some padding removed at the shoulders the sadde fit Houston beautifully. Then modifications are on me. I reordered a whole new saddle at no additional charge except that I ended up upgrading leather to full buffalo because drool.
I hope you enjoy your other experiences. Feeling a county right after feeling most of the French brands made me realize the big difference in leather quality.
But each person has their preference! She did tell me about the year warranty, and said that also applied to demo saddles as well I believe. Kristen from Stampy And The Brain should be able to chime in on the demo as she just purchased. I might be in the minirity, but I kinda like saddle shopping. I find it fascinating and exciting, unless your strapped for cash and desperately in need. So fun! It might be a good saddle for Simon.
You can definitely tell a difference between your normal saddle and that 2G in the riding pictures. I have the classic deep seat in a 3C flap as well, just a slightly smaller seat. So… very similar options! You know I love mine. Amazing how the right specs make all the difference.
I DO like the 2g and the flexible shoulder accommodation. Over and over and over again. Frustrating when they are that expensive although they have great resale value. I too have had very frustrating experiences with fit- have had 4 different reps and each other said the fit from the previous rep was really bad -which I knew.
Id never recommend a CWD. How fun to saddle shop! I had a County Stabilizer that was my go-to for over a decade.
Awesome, that as my horse aged, we could modify the wool to fit his back perfectly. In the end it was somewhat of an amicable break-up, but I did have to relinquish my First Amendment Rights. An awkward situation, for sure. I ll let them know of my bad experience blogs, and then they will make it right? I think CWD has given up on customer service.
Thankfully it settled quickly, and never pinched my mare, which I was very worried about because shes super sensitive. After a few years, I did have some concerns about the fit, and had another fitter, from CWD, come look at the fit. I like knowing that they stand behind their product.
If you have any other questions just message me. CWD has a very solid training program in place for its reps. That alone is worth a lot in terms of peace of mind, and knowing you and your horse will get a correct fit. Sometimes the rep will know about a used saddle that fits your requirements. My former trainer is now a CWD rep and it was interesting following her journey through the program. They train in France, and then come back to the USA and shadow a more experienced rep for a while before getting out on their own.
I have an SE01 and love it. It replaced my year old County Stabilizer, which was made for my retired horse and fits nothing else but her. I tried a lot of different saddles, but that is the one that when i sat in it, it just felt right, and very secure but still allows me to get out of the seat.
It will be 2 years this spring, and it is holding up great. If you like a wider twist, it will feel comfortable, if you are used to a narrow twist and prefer that feel, this will feel like a lot of saddle and may feel too wide. So, it will depend a lot on what feel you are looking for. I actually decided not to buy a cwd because of the rep.
There were some other things as well, and I just had a bad feeling about it. Ended up with a Voltaire which I absolutely love. One is 8 years old, the other is 3. The poster I quoted states she purchased her saddle in , at which point the seat codes were as I listed. Like my cwd. Mine is buffalo and wears like iron. It doesnt get as much tlc as it deserves and still looks great.
My biggest complaint is the wide twist. Im a petite rider and it caused some hip pain. Ive now switched to mdc irons which made a big difference. Ive recently started riding in a butet and would highly recommend you have s rep out before making a decision. My butt does not like a lot of English saddles. Cookie policy.
